OK,
It's getting ridiculous how out of date the Cinema Displays are. Not to mention that Apple hasn't stocked an iSight camera for longer than I can remember. The last Mac Pro announcement would have been perfect for new Cinema DIsplays, so why didn't they come?
Here are my thoughts:
1) No innovation intended here, cameras will never be added, our monitors are perfect as is, buy away.
2) Small innovation coming, just cameras and new redesign, just waiting for Steve to approve hardware and get facilities ramped up and clear the channel.
3) Huge innovation coming, possibly requiring System support could be for multitouch, cameras hidden in the middle of the screen, 3D??? hardware could be ready but getting pushed back with Apple's other commitments.
4) Combination of small-large hardware innovation and new form factor computer (minitower!) that matches. Hold up has been finishing the releases of the products already announced first to clear the decks, possibly then adding needed system support.
So I'd like to hear anyones opinion on the choices or if they can think up any other possiblities. I finally have the money saved up for a 30" and now I'm too scared to buy it. I know the announcement will come as soon as I get an old monitor and my chances to return it expire!
Thanks

The last I read, they wont update them until all the displays have LED screens...
I could see the uproar if only the 20" and 23" were LED ready, but the 30" was still old tech. As the 30" is still to big for LED. I'd hate to see the prices when that day arrives.

Am I the only bloke on the planet who doesn't want a camera in his monitor?

I doubt the Cinema Displays will be updated in the near future. They just updated the packaging, which doesn't exactly point to an update coming in the pipe.
I don't think there are any epic advances coming to the Cinema Displays. If you are too scared to buy a Cinema Display, look at a Dell display. They come with a lot more goodies.

I've been waiting patiently for the release of new Cinema Displays. My 23" was working fine. However, for the past 2 years I've dreamed of owning a 30". I've gone into the store several times, playing with the MacPro hooked up to the 30".
This past weekend, I bit the bullet. I sold my 23" on Craig's List and headed directly to the Apple Store with that cash and some of my Christmas bonus.
I'm now the proud owner of what to me is the most amazing display I've seen. Whether Apple releases new displays next week, next month, next year; this thing is still damn amazing!

The camera can always be disabled... Since video chat with iChat is a great feature it makes sense to put a camera there, just as is done with the laptops. But its true I never use it!
But the camera isn't really what I'm waiting for/afraid of. It would be the other features a new set of Displays might bring, such as bigger (for the same price), more ports, better color precision, ergonomics, who knows?

I an due for a new monitor (last monitor I got was December 1996 17" Sony 200SF $1,125CDN (as much as $1,500 at other retail stores). I got me a hand me down 19" CRT in 2006 and it sucks (2003 December Pro series Viewsonic). It's time for a new monitor. I am hoping to have the money by my 30th birthday in May. The problem is, first I have an iSight, second the Apple 23" is 1,049CDN and is pricy. I want a 24" and I just can't justify Apple's price+a swing arm for it. I am at my moms place with the 20" on a swing arm and it blows away the 19" CRT she gave me, but for photo editing in Aperture with D70, I need 24". I can get a good 24" for $650CDN but Apple isn't reducing the CDN prices to match the US prices. I would like to see an Apple 24" for $799 $899 tops. I would buy it instantly. But it's looking more and more like I will have to go third party. I don't want any fancy features just a monitor with DVI out, no ports, no HDMI, no speakers, just a quality monitor.

Lets say they did update them, what could they do. I mean this screens are like already amazing as they are. Just in my mind I don't know what they can do more. But this is just my opinon. I do however want a 30" though :-)
