Has anyone noticed a weird residue on your iMac screen in direct light when the screen is off?
I have this and I only clean the screen with Monster Cleaner.

You may have answered your own question. What's Monster Cleaner (assuming from Monster Cable) and are you sure it is meant for computer LCDs?

What type of iMac? If it is the aluminium iMac, then you shouldn't be using an LCD cleaner as the iMac's is covered by a piece of glass. LCD cleaner is for application direct to an LCD surface.

A slightly moistened (with water) cloth is all you should need.

Btw, this is what the User guide states for cleaning your iMac:

62 Chapter 5 Last, but Not Least

Cleaning Your iMac
Follow these guidelines when cleaning the outside of your iMac and its components:
• Shut down your iMac and disconnect all cables.
• Use a damp, soft, lint-free cloth to clean the exterior of your iMac. Avoid getting
moisture in any openings. Do not spray liquid directly on your iMac.
• Don’t use aerosol sprays, solvents, or abrasives.

Cleaning Your iMac Display
Use the cloth that came with your iMac to clean the display.
To clean your iMac display, do the following:
• Shut down your iMac and disconnect all cables.
• Dampen the cloth that came with your iMac, or another clean, soft, lint-free cloth,
with water only and wipe the screen. Do not spray liquid directly on the screen.

Cleaning Your Mighty Mouse
You may need to clean your mouse from time to time to remove dirt and dust that has
accumulated in the scroll ball area. Hold the mouse upside-down and roll the scroll ball
vigorously with the cloth that came with your iMac, or another clean, soft, lint-free
cloth, to help dislodge any particles that may interfere with proper scrolling.

If I found goop on my brand new computer, I'd return it in a heart beat. Its really not an issue of them owning up, but rather you putting up [with the issue]. I'm not sure when you bought the imac but if its within the 14 (or is 10 I forget) window, I'd demand an exchange or get demand a full refund.
