Can I buy the 8800 GT card for the Mac Pro if I choose to purchase the default configuration today? My work lets me get a discount at the local Apple Store, but they only carry the lowest end Mac Pro (2700 ish) and the highest (4700 ish) . Since the upper is out of my price range and the only real upgrade that I would need soon is the video card, I just need to know if it can be purchased separately from Apple or from a 3rd party.

The one bad thing about purchasing the video card kit, is that it is not covered under applecare if you chose to get AC.

If your company has a deal with Apple, you should be able to order via the Apple online store through the corporate purchase program.

Thanks. I found the card on Apples site...wow 319 for a 200 option if you buy one pre-configured. I guess that means I just bite the bullet and get the card installed.

When I asked if they had the 8800GT at the Soho store, I was told that I have to order it online. So, don't waste your time going to a brick and mortar Apple Store.
