Go to Apple Menu/About This Mac. The processor speed will tell you which version MP you have. However, gen1 is 2006 and gen2 is 2008, so that may give you a clue. If you bought before Dec 2007 or thereabouts it is definitely a 2006 box.
Actually the memory speed will tell you which generation you have (gen 1/2006 is 667Mhz, gen 2/2008 is 800Mhz), while the processor speed can be ambiguous (3Ghz).
