Hiya!

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I have a 15inch Powerbook G4. Connected to this is a powered 7 space USB hub. Plugged into the hub is a Wacom Tablet, Card reader, Mac keyboard, 160gig External drive and a 120gig external drive.
I've just plugged a new WD My Book 320gig external drive into the hub and started to transfer about 25 gig of images/photoshop files from the 160 gig external drive to the new My Book drive.

Problem. It gets through a couple of gig of copying and then hangs. Progress bar stops moving and files aren't copying. Can't stop the copying or eject either drive and have to force a restart.

Is this happening because the hub can't power everything properly?

Cheers for any help and advice!

Pete

Try plugging the two drives directly into the PowerBook and see if that helps. If it's possible I always plug drives directly into my Mac if i'm transferring large amounts of data.

USB is a poor connection for Mac hard drives. Use FW800 or FW400 if possible. If forced to use USB try not to have any other USB devices connected at the same time.

Good luck!

With the size of his drives it shouldn't take more than 90 minutes to copy the data. But you need each drive to be on it's own USB port, not connected to a hub.
