Hello everyone, its been a while since ive been on here so how is everyone?
Having a bit of an issue which im still no better of with after 3 hours of trying to resolve and thought i'd come talk to the experts (lol) before i phone Samsung/Apple when the office opens 2moro
Basicaly i have just bought a new shiny 21.6" monitor to sit next to my 20" imac (the SM223bw by Samsung) which outputs at the top end or its resolutions at 1680 x 1050 on its speck' sheet (the same as my imac as im sure u know). Well OS X/my imac wont let me put the res' on the screen to that, instead it is offering me 1600 x 1200 (aswell as many others) as the out put which the monitor actually runs at but the screen ratio is out at this resolution so its not desirable.
anyone got any idea as to why i cant run the monitor at 1680 x 1050 like my imac screen?
thanks in advance for any replies
Matt

I am not looking at a 10.5 system, but remember a check box in the system pref for recommended resolutions, which could be unchecked to reveal resolutions that the system thought where not supported. I hope I am not completely mistaken.
Are you using a VGA or DVI cable. VGA has some issues with detecting to resolution of the monitor.

had a brief look for that check box, cant find but will keep on looking
as for the VGA, yes i am running the monitor on a mini-DVI to VGA adapter and then a VGA cable, on that note, is there such a cable as a mini-DVI to DVI (D sub) i think cable? as i would like to run over DVI in the future and cant be arsed with the adapter
ill let u know if i find this tick box, otherwise anymore ideas anyone?

You want to use DVI instead of VGA; it should work fine then, and look a lot better.
In the meantime, SwitchResX will let you select an arbitrary resolution for the display.

thanks boys, got my mini-DVI adapter this morning in the post from ebay (cost me about £11 inc P&P which if u compare to the £15 that apple charge for the adapter alone, aint bad) plugged it in, jumped straight to 1680 x 1050, picture quality is very nice, and even picked up its own colour management settings from the monitor i think as a new profile has appeared called SyncMaster.
no complaints, thanks
