Has anyone used the system utility app called OnyX Titanium Software and can recommend it as an alternative (better?) than the Apple Disc Utility?

Yes, I've used OnyX in the past, when I've had occasional problems with font caches and the like. I wouldn't say it's an alternative to Disk Utility; the two apps do very different things.

I use it to clean up the system immediately before I back up my user folder. It seems to work well for maintenance functions.

I've been using Onyx for years, both PPC and Intel versions/Mac's. I use it before each Software Update and after I update - Onyx, reboot, Update, reboot, Onyx again and reboot. Might be overkill, but I like knowing my system is clean.
Never had any issues on any of my Mac's because of it.
