Got a 2.4ghz/24" iMac. Had Apple install 2 1gb memory sticks when I bought it at the Apple store. Been getting crappy performance lately in a number of areas -- lots of waiting and lag. I look in "about this mac" and sure enough 1 of my memory banks reads "empty" and the system is only using 1gb of RAM.
Anyone else have this problem? I'm going to reseat the sticks tonite and hope that works.
This happened to me as well on a G5 iSight iMac. I called AppleCare and they came out and replaced a logic board (the dead memory bank was the one that is NOT user serviceable). It was fascinating to watch the technician tear apart (and put back together) the entire computer to replace the logic board. Didn't cost me anything other than my time.
Turns out there was a miscommunication. For some reason they never installed the other 1gb RAM and I thought they had! The good news is I found the box with RAM in it, and installed it.
