Hello friends,
I am in need of a new computer. This time , Instead of buying a pc my thoughts are about getting a new iMac. One of my friends got a MBP before some months and day after he got that , MBP got upgraded . So my question is " will the iMac be updated any soon(within this month or next?"
Also i am from India, Anybody in India having Apple products can comment how good Apple India service is?
Thanks for the help in advance. I was never a Mac user before(except some days when i was in U.S)
and becoming a full fledged Mac User.
Thanks .
(sorry for the bad english , English is not my first language)

The iMacs were just updated at the end of April. Update cycle is around 6-8 months, but it varies a bit, since sometimes they just add options without a full upgrade. I'd say it's safe to buy - while Apple does add extra models in between upgrades on occasion, there is little reason to do so now.

An upgrade in the near future (next month or two) is possible, but very unlikely.

What P said. If anything, now is the time to buy a new iMac. They were just updated.

Now is a great time to buy. The next update will likely be small performance updates anyway, so it shouldn't matter much for the average user. By the way, your English is great!

Actually it's going to be a very significant upgrade (new chipset, quad core possible, more RAM supported, new video card generation, etc.), but it's probably not going to be until early next year.

openone, a good source to get an idea of when the next update is coming from is the MacRumors Buyer's Guide. It's usually pretty spot on, and will let you know if updates are coming soon or not, but as the name suggest, it is speculative and not the official word from Apple. Maybe you should let your friend know about the site, too.
That said, I concur that now is a good time to buy. Sure, there might be a significant revision next update, but that'll likely happen six or more months down the line, and at that point you'll just be playing the never-ending waiting game. The iMac is pretty powerful as it is, and just got updated. So if it fits your needs now, what sense is there in waiting anymore?

Agreed. For instance, my 20-inch aluminum iMac has a 2 GHz processor. The difference between that and the fastest current iMac, the 24-inch 3.06 GHz model, is probably negligible and any increase in performance is likely due more to memory than CPU speed. I can detect a little extra zip (the Micro Center has one on display). My iMac has a 2 GHz processor and a gigabyte-and-a-half of memory and it's a pretty fast machine. You need not spend $2,500 on an iMac; spend a lot less and go for extra memory and an external backup. That will serve you better in my opinion.
As far as their service in India, I don't know.
