Someone gave me a Power Mac G5 (no specifics known)... booted up to gray apple screen with no loading indicator but fans and HD happily whirring away. Before I could try to reboot with OS disk, a fumbling idiot (myself) tripped over the power cord and yanked it out of the rear. Now when I try to power up I get a quick flash from the RED LED with a simultaneous click (from the power supply?). After this there is absolutely nothing, save a lone AMBER LED (trickle) shining sadly at me. I've tried most all the fixes listed on the forums, and I'm stumped. Any ideas? Thanks.

Either your trip messed up the power supply (in which case a new one should fix things) or the physical jerk popped something out of place. I'd suggest opening the beast up and making sure all of the cards, RAM modules etc. are properly seated as the first line of attack, and looking for a replacement PSU if that fails.

I had the same problem with the click on my G5, it was the power supply, I replaced it and it worked fine.

some G5's are covered for power supply repairs from Apple as they were defective. Check to see if yours is one of them.
