I have a MP (first gen) and have 2 512MB sticks on the top riser and 2 512 MB sticks on the bottom. I just order 2x2GB of RAM from OWC and put one in on the top and one on the bottom. So now I have three sticks on each riser. Seated properly - the MP didnt recognize the new ram at all still says 2 GB. so I put the 2 GB sticks to the from of each riser folloowed by the 512 sticks - reset the pram and it sees the 2GB stick on top and only one of the 512 sticks on the bottom!

Help - whats going on?

I think I solved it - I put the 4 512's on top riser and the pair of 2gb's on the bottom. This works but I wonder if I should change the order?

Memory must be installed in pairs on the same riser. You've now installed it the best way possible.

Yeah I never got that part "on the SAME riser". So much for the "quad channel RAM" oh well, I think the extra RAM will out wiegh the matched sets quad channel goodness.

More RAM is almost always better than matched sets. The matching benefit is extremely marginal.

Huh? You had quad channel before (one 512MB module in each channel) and you have quad channel now (two channels with 2x512MB each, two channels with 2GB each).

No I thought quad channel was when the ram is distributed evenly on the top riser and the bottom. So for every stick on top there is a matched stick on the bottom ( in the same slot).
