I have an old iBook G3 and am transferring files to my new iMac. I created a new account on the new iMac- as I want to start fresh.
Few Questions:
I was thinking of using the migration assistant and making the old account on my new iMac just not making it Admin. Will this make it easier for transferring files? Any suggestions?
Also I want to get all my contacts from address book over to my iMac- how do I do this?

I actually just did that last weekend - transferred files from my old powerbook to the new imac. It was the first time I used migration assistant and I was impressed at how elegant it was!!! Migration assistant will copy your whole account including applications, settings, everything. You will feel like you never switched computers - just the screen got bigger (i switched from 12" to 24")!!! Than it's up to you what kind of privileges you give to your old account on the new computer.

I am having an issue myself about transfering files to my new iMac. I used to have an iBook G4 which had an old PowerBook drive in it. My iBook died a few months ago and now that I have a new computer I want to get the 15,000+ songs off of it. Since I can't boot it, I used one of the guides to pull out the drive. My problem is, all the external drive cases I have bought don't work. There are two pins on the end of the hard drive exposed after is plugged into the external case. My iMac will see the drive, but only in Disk Utility and it won't let me do anything with it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am pretty sure the drive is good. Someone suggested there were different IDE standards for laptop drives, but since going Mac I haven't had to muck around in a case. So my knowledge of such things is a little limited lately.

When you say you can see the drive, does it say how much data is on it and can you verify it? If you can't verify, it's not a good sign.

What does Disk Utility do when it verifies and how long should it take? I have tried that and it just seems to sit.

Also yes, it does mention the size of the drive on the left.
