Apple sent a replacement keyboard. It didn't do the start and stop dance the first one did, but now bluetooth just ups and quits. Neither the mouse or the keyboard work. I have to press the power button to turn off the computer and restart to get the keyboard and mouse back. Then it works ok again until it quits.
I'm in middle of an enormously frustrating situation with Apple. They determined I have a bad BT module and will replace it under warranty. The way they determined this was by having me remove the keyboard from the BT tab in system prefs and then restart. Voila! I had a mouse but no keyboard. BT didn't search for it on start up. My computer is password protected so no keyboard means no logging in, no computer, dead in the water. Can't even put it in target mode to get the files into my laptop.
This is a long story, complicated by the fact that a new DHL delivery person left the first keyboard replacement on a porch no one uses, in the pouring rain, forged my signature (yes, forged), and well, it goes on from there. Since everything Apple has done to solve the problem proceeds from that first astray delivery, subsequent dispatches get cancelled. I've spent many hours on the phone trying to get it sorted out. Whenever a rep thinks they've fixed it, the system cancels their work again.
I've gotten hold of a wired keyboard which is allowing me to type this.
My confidence in Apple's tech support has taken a major hit lately.
I had a problem with the video card causing severe ghosting on my monitor. Apple replaced the card, didn't fix the problem; replaced the card with a second card -- no fix. At this point I suggest that maybe the kind of card is not compatible with my monitor. Apple support said they could not swap out one card for another, part has to be replaced with like part. So instead they proceeded to replace different parts, including the logic board, with absolutely no effect on the problem. Finally they replaced the computer - and the new computer (same configuration, same video card)-- you guessed it, same problem. Finally, by some stroke of good fortune I got transferred to someone higher up in the tech support food chain and this fellow had authority to send out a different model card. Installed that -> problem gone.
So anyhow, with this repair I'm seeing some Keystone Cops action again and figure I'd better get as educated as I can myself.
