iMac 6.1 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz - MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-85J with "The Wiggles" jammed and seemingly unable to be ejected. Have followed all the usual - (1) computer in sleep/restart mode and media Eject failed (2) drag the disc icon to the Trash failed to eject (3) restart with mouse hold down - failed to eject . Any other options apart from removing the drive???? and throwing on the floor......and yes I agree, this is kind of "Wiggle" karma. My kids keep asking when the Wiggles are back from holidays????? HELP.

You could try this, two people may help.
Turn the machine off, lay the screen over the side of the table with the CD slot facing downwards.
Turn the machine on, hold down the mouse button immediately after powering on. The mouse button should make the optical drive try to eject the disc and the gravity should help the disc out.

What happens when you try to eject? Is it physically jammed (ie, you can hear the drive trying to get it out) or does nothing happen at all?

Can you hear it trying to eject? Does it unmount the CD from the desktop? Do you see any part of it come out at all?

Try taking a credit card and see if the slot is clear. There should only be one obstacle in the center of the slot that bars another CD from going in... but that's all. That obstacle moves out of the way when it tries to eject. Sometimes you can use that credit card to "guide" the CD out... if it's hitting another obstacle, etc.

Try to eject it from within Disk Utility or iTunes.

Thanks for the tips....have concluded issue is likely mechanical failure..bench examination underway. Noticed in a number of IMAC blogs optical driver failure has been reported previously... currently exploring possible replacement drives. Any ideas?

credit card tipusually works on all but the most badly stuck disks. Insert corner of (unneeded) credit card into slot and lever disc up while pressing eject.

Is it out of warranty? What happens sometimes with these, is that there is a black felt glued onto the inside of the drives to keep the discs from getting scratched... and sometimes it gets so hot in there that the felt comes off and jams the drive. If you can get a look in, just grab the felt with some tweezers and rip it out.

As for replacement drives... you need a slot loading notebook drive. I think it's 12.5mm, but maybe someone can confirm, because it's been trending smaller to the 9.5mm models that the macbook pro's started using to get the laptops slimmer.

That's the manual eject button, if the hardware is fine but you can't eject for some software-related reason. That doesn't seem to be the case here.
