Would this drive be compatible with a G5 2.5 dual?

I seem to remember way back when that NCQ was a problem with G5 computers but maybe that's not correct, I'm recalling something from almost four years ago.

Yes.

Unless you're going to pick it up locally, I'd buy from Newegg. They have the Seagate (better sustained transfer speeds) and the Hitachi (better IO performance) for the same price.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into it.

I upgraded my G5 2.5 dual to 5 gigs of ram and wanted to upgrade my
main drive in the unit as well.

Is Superduper still the best way to dupe the main drive in a CPU?

Superduper does a good job. Carbon Copy Cloner is good too, but both (and particularly Superduper can take a long time to image a large drive.

Personally I would install a fresh copy of OSX on the drive and then use Migration Assistant to move the data from the old drive to the new one. It's faster and you get a fresh install of the OS.

Andrew: great tip, thanks for suggesting it before I got hip deep into this.

I'll try that!

Disk Utility can clone drives, too.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I've had very poor results trying to use disk utility for that purpose.

I'm not exactly sure why but the disc images I create using disk utility have all of the data but end up being unbootable for some reason.
