I have a G4 that I use exclusively for audio recording using a Digi001 and Pro Tools LE. I am still using OS 9.2. It performed flawlessly for several years.

Recently the computer runs for a couple of minutes then shuts off. I suspect power supply failure.

Just prior to the start of the shutdown problem it began not putting out sound from the Digi outputs. The cursor moved and the meters jumped as if all was normal but no sound came from the speakers attached to the Digi outputs. The first time I rebooted using OS X then again in 9.2 and the audio returned. This only worked once.

A failing power supply may be the cause of having no audio as well. It may not be supplying the correct voltages to power the Digi001 - how does that connect by the way? Firewire? Is it powered by the Firewire bus as well?

Thank you for your input. The Digi has it's own PCI card and cable.

Sounds like a dying power supply. If you didn't have the issues with the audio ports, it could also be a dying voltage regulator for your cpu, but the case is quite clear.

Do you really need to run OS 9? What are the specs of your G4? (I'm asking because we can gauge by the specs what your requirements are and whether it's worth getting the G4 fixed or getting a different OS 9-capable Mac is the better option.)
