I inserted a CD from a client. The computer started blinking. I lost the finder, though my docking station is visible and I can use programs. I put the CD into another computer and same thing happened. Now both have same symtoms. They both blink, the hard drive icon is missing as well as menus. I was able to get to sysmtem prefs, created new user, went to ultilies and check harddrive but I that did not help when I went back to my original blinking user. Did the CD contain a virus? How can I get my finder back.

The Funder app itself resides in /System/Lybrary/CoreServices. If you can't launch it from there, I'd got to your user/library/preferences folder and delete com.apple.finder.plist.

The Finder "should" relaunch itself upon crash, so something got corrupted. A virus seems unlikely, but I'd be curious to see the contents of that CD.

It is very strange that a CD has caused this issue on two computers. It sounds like it may be installing some sort of extension or context menu that is causing problems.

Can you put that CD into a Linux PC and take a screenshot of the contents?
