Was wondering what the best website is to buy Mac Pro RAM (I have a new 8-core 5400). Would like to get some 4GB chips.

I have looked at Crucial..they seem good. But also wondering about Kingston or other offerings. Most have the heatsinks and are identical, so I was thinking more best price and good selection as well as reputation. I've looked at places like MacMall, etc..just wondering what else is out there for RAM.

I was gonna ask too about best RAM brand...so suggestions are good.

Any suggestions would be great for website to buy...want to get like 20GB total so looking for good prices. Thanks

Frank

OWC http://www.owcomputing.com/ is one very good source. Unfortunately the price of 4-GB sized DIMMs, although falling, is still high compared to the 2-GB size.

You're buying a huge amount of very high-quality RAM, so I wouldn't look any farther than Crucial or OWC. Get the best you can. I've only ever installed OWC in Mac Pros, and it's always worked perfectly.

2GB modules won't get you to 20GB with only 8 slots, so you have to go with 4GB; pricey (~$75/GB), but too bad (like they used to be). If you reuse the original 2x1 instead of selling it, remember to put the larger modules closer to the logic board (in pairs, of course).

Crucial from Crucial

Kingston from Newegg

Awesome..thanks for the links. Yes I have 4GB now (4 slots used) and have 4 slots left, so I figured 4GB in each for 20GB

More suggestions please....

Is there something you're looking for that Crucial, OWC, and Newegg don't offer?

Make sure you buy from a place with a good replacement program. Crucial for instance will replace any stick of RAM, no matter how long you've had it, with basically no questions asked.

Interesting...I have used Crucial in my Mac laptops and have never had a problem. They work great. I should check out replacement programs...Crucial for 16GB is a couple hundred more than the OWC brand..identical specs...but I will check on their guarantee

They're an older supplier with almost-suspiciously low prices; haven't used them in any ICBMs yet (that's Intel Chip Based Mac), but had great experience with them back in The Day.

http://www.ramjet.com/

Otherwise, can't go wrong with Crucial or Kingston.

I have always used OWC. Getting ready for more. Since were on the subject, I have always purchased the net listed from OWC. Zero problems. Anyone purchase the apple qualified modules? Any problems with these? Getting ready to put 16gb in and sell my 8gb modules but thought I would ask and maybe save 240 bucks. tnks

newegg corsair ram still running in my laptop (3 years) and crucial still running in the G5 (3.5 years). no problems here with the stock 2 gigs in the pro either (2 months and still sensual as ever). knock on wood for all listed machines please . As many have stated in this often posted thread; all of the above are great sources. If you are really hyper-worried about compatibility you can find the oem stuff from 3rd party vendors that have a lower price point compared to purchasing from apple.

Another vote for OWC, though I bought Techworks (Buffalo) memory through them instead of the OWC specific brand. The advantage of going with OWC over someplace like NewEgg is that you know the memory they sell is built for the Mac Pro in both tech specs and also cooling requirements.

Newegg has a section for Mac memory, including the Mac Pro. The Mac Pro/Xserve is probably the only time you'd want to buy from that section, since the rest of the Intel Macs use standard SODIMMs.

I just purchased 16GB of Mac Pro RAM from Omni Technologies (Optival) via eBay a month ago, back when live.com was running the 25% off cash back promotion. Great deal, and they work flawlessly.

Don't believe the hype. I have bought memory from Kingston with no problems (still running strong in my Sawtooth Mac for last 7 years). Also bought memory for MacPro from OWC (I got the Netlist FB_DIMMs) with no problems for last 2+ years.

I'd buy from a reputable company...no need to jump on the Crucial bandwagon though they too make good reliable memory.

I have had no problems with Maxupgrades. After 2 years RAM is fine, bigger heat sinks as well.

memoryamerica.com has 4gb kits )2x2gb modules) for $109.99. I have bought all my RAM from them for my Mac Pro and their customer service and pricing is second to none. Other's come close but I haven't found any that beat it.
