Idiot I am. I left a disc in the optical drive and put another on top. It was the #1 OS Leopard disc on top and a Tiff format disc on the bottom. I forced quit, holding down the cpu button, as they were making a lot of noise pulled the drive out, grounding myself before as specified and took the two CD discs out. I reassembled the drive, reinstalled and all booted well, including my peripherals. The door will not open, or, is non responsive to the keyboard command. Do I need another drive or is there something I can do. Not familiar with the routine for Mac.

This is a MacPro xeon from '07. Stock except I have installed 9 gigs of RAM.

Considering you can order a replacement DVD burner from NewEgg for $40, don't spend too much tme trying to fix it.

You know, I think dreamed all the posts I made this morning.

Check that the IDE/ATA cable is on properly. The pink stripe should be on the side closest to the power connector.

In a Mac Pro, there's really no way to put the cable in wrong -- there's not enough slack to flip it around.

Hey There, Tooki, you read my mind. Besides, I think I want to add another drive. That'll be $80.00. I like newegg and owc.

Now, how do I avoid be so stupid as to put one disc on top of another and close the drawer? ;0)
