Alright I'm a new convert to mac and I'm having a serious windows like dilemma. When I turn on my mac pro it loads up to the log in screen and may or may not have the graphics all goofed up. Mostly it will let me log in and load at least part of the normal screen before everything freezes and the monitor shuts down as if the mac is sleeping or off....Is this a graphics card issue???? If so will apple cover it under the standard warranty they give with each mac? I mean it's only 7 months old!

It sounds like either your graphics card or motherboard has gone into tits up mode: Apple's 12 month warranty will take care of it. Take it to your local Apple Store / Apple Authorised Dealer / call AppleCare and get a box shipped to you.

Sorry you've had a bad experience as a switcher: trust me when I say this doesn't happen often.

You may want to reset the PRAM by restarting the computer while holding down the Command, Option, P, and R keys until you hear the startup sound a second time or to reset the SMC, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1806

Consider:
PRAM Battery is bad / check w/ voltmeter/ not hard to do at all and can buy replacements at Radio Shack.
Reset NVRAM: restart holding down C O Option F then: reset-nvram reset-all reboot
Reset PRAM: hold down P R Control Command and let it ding X 3 then release.
I had to have video card replaced so don't get too frustrated... do it.

Note: this doesn't work on Intel Macs because open firmware doesn't exist in Intel land.
