I have a problem that i've had before (on a PC thought), but need to know if it's not the same problem i've had before or if it is. The problem is after doing some partitioning to my drives the DVD portion of my mac pro doesn't work,

I have 3 x 1TB drives and a 350gb boot dive that came with the Mac Pro. Last night I decided to partition some of the drives accordingly (to more organize my work, videos, music, etc...) The problem happened right after this that i "know of" it hadn't been happening before. In my 14 yrs of building computers i Have had worse coincidences , but I just wanted to make sure that's all it might be. I do have 14 yrs experience but 13 are with a PC, so hold off on the no0b comments.

Thank you for all the real help!

Unplug it on both ends and plug it back in.*

* Note this is code for "I have my doubts that you connected the cables."

Umm, the hard disks are on a SATA backplane, the DVD drive is on an ATA cable. Partitioning wouldn't have anything to do with the DVD drive.

It probably is just a big coincidence.

That said, I'm staunchly anti-partitioning now, since it brings no storage efficiency and just makes file management harder.
