Hello all
I received a Imac G4 ( 800 ?? one mem slot ) , put a harddrive I had laying around into it that I know worked - Put a dvd drive into it I had laying around and with some happiness started up . At first , I had no chimes , just would boot to the Question mark /Folder icon . I tried booting into cd/dvd with no luck it just goes to folder/? , I tried booting from my Leopard/Tiger and OS9 cd's ... No luck .... After researching some forums and google'd for a night or 2 I found out how to reset my PRAM and NVRAM , After I did this I got chimes VERY COOL or so I thought .....I tried all the basics again ( held C , Tried selective startup ) same results.
When I choose to do a selective startup ( option key held ) It shows the OSX disc but when I choose it the CD spins then it just stays at the menu , After a minute or so I can then refresh and try to click the arrow again .... Just stays in a loop I guess
I then booted the Imac into target disk mode and used my macmini Intel to install leopard to the drive on the Imac and I could install and even Booted my macmini from it ...
Sooo aggravating ... I guess i'm starting to think its something major , Iv been a

You were able to boot your mac mini off of the iMac's drive through TDM? Pretty cool.
Yeah, that definitely sounds like something major. I think you've tried pretty much everything, although I'm no expert on iMac G4 troubleshooting.

Be aware that once you've install Leopard from your Intel Mac Mini to the PowerPC iMac that you may have formatted the drive for an Intel machine, and your iMac won't boot from that either..

What size drive did you put in? Don't early iMacs suffer from the same issue as early G4 towers in not being able to boot to drives bigger than 160GB?

the drive was a small 20gb ...Nothing huge , Just wanted to use it for testing ..... I did plan on buying some newer stuff if I could prove was worthy of life .
BUT.... I have some bad news , I think it was something major from the start anyways cause now it decided to not turn on ...meaning I hear and see the fan going , but drive doesn't spin WITH ide connected ( without IDE it pins fine ) , no display , no chimes . I am pretty bummed
Logic board ? If so I really would have to figure out what I should do , Ill start lookin on ebay for a board but may be cheaper to just pick one up from a refurb place online or something , I see a few when I am surfing at dvwarehouse and such for the price of a board ....
Any help would b appreciated of course

Does it work with the hard drive completely disconnected from IDE and power? Is there a chance you may have worked a connector loose when opening it up?

Well after about a week of troubleshooting i'm at another brick wall . While I was trying to resolve the first issue I posted above the machine now will not Boot/POST ... No chime , no display , drive does not spin when IDE connected just the fan is spinning.
I have received helped from a couple of people but still with no luck , was wondering If anyone could shed some light on that one ?>
