I'll probably get a new iMac when I can get it with a quad-core Clarksfield. I don't think it will have QuickPath though.

No, it won't. Intel's mobile CPUs and chipsets won't use QP. Instead they'll have this.

For better or for worse SPEC released a new benchmark in 2006 so direct comparisons between the G5s and Nehalem aren't possible using published figures, but a comparison can be made by using the original Mac Pros as an intermediate.
Core i7 quad @ 3.2Ghz:
SPECint2006rate: 124
SPECfp2006rate: 86.1
Expect the new Mac Pro to approximately double those rate figures, as the site OreoCookie linked to stated.
Xeon 5100 quad @ 3.0Ghz:
SPECint2006rate: 68.9
SPECfp2006rate: 48.1
SPECint2000rate: 123
SPECfp2000rate: 83.4
G5 quad @ 2.5Ghz:
SPECint2000rate: 67.5
SPECfp2000rate: 58.8
So from the quad G5 from late 2005 to the 8 core Nehalem of early 2009 we're up 6.5x for integer performance and 5x for floating point performance. At about the same system price that's integer performance doubling every 14 months and floating point performance doubling every 17 months.
