I am copying 778gb from a ProVid Z 1tb Raid drive to an OWC Elite 2tb drive obviously using FW800 and I'm getting about 16mb a sec. Even though I'm copying from drive1 to drive2 on the same channel shouldnt I expect to be closer to 25-40mb per second?

The total copy time started at 15 hours.

No other firewire devices connected to FW400 or the 800.

Any input, suggestions or reading material suggestions greatly appreciated....

What speed do you get from each drive when copying from an internal drive?

Through a comedy of errors I've spent most of the last 2 days copying 890gb of video data from my current library drive onto the new drive. I will make some tests as soon as that's finished. Currently on 826gb, attempt #3, there should be a remedial guide for copying files that a user with 24 years of mac experience can follow.

With large files I get about 40-50MBps and with smaller files it's very erratic. SuperDuper reports an average speed of about 23MBps when I clone my internal drive to my FW800 (Oxford chipset) external drive.

It sounds like the overhead of having both drives on the same bus is cutting your practical throughput in half.

your scenario is normal, I avoid that type of firewire copy.
