HI

My iMac seems to have trouble maintaining signal strength to my Airport Extreme.

The menu bar indicator continually goes from 4 bars to 0 bars. I have tried repairing disk, rebooting (cold and warm), with and without Time Machine backup on and no change.

Why I suspect the innards of the iMac is simple. We also have an MacBook Pro on the same network and there is never any problem at any time with that

Has anyone got any idea where to look to try and correct this? Is it a failing component? Other?

All suggestions are most welcome and appreciated

Thank you

Have you tried to reboot the AP Extreme?

Have you set a certain channel or does it chose the channel automatically?

If you suspect the iMac you should run Apple Hardware Test first (boot form the install DVD, hold d). If that reports nothing you could try creating a new user account and logging in to that one to see if there is some kind of preference issue wih your account.

is there anything isolating between the airport extreme and your mac, like a steel desk work surface?

Still under warranty? Just hop over to an Apple store. (but you'll need an appointment)

none of your suggestions have worked and the office is a U - shaped office desk with a computer on each side and the base station in the middle. The other booting etc did not work at the time

Not sure if I am dealing with an intermittent here as it has been rock solid for a day and one half none and pretty much got that way on its own

Love those inconsistent wrinkles and buggies!

Thanks for your efforts

Geoff
