Suddenly, the numerical keypad (and most function keys) of my Apple keyboard stopped working. Since the keyboard is only one month old, I disconnected it and connected in the old Apple keyboard I stiil had: same result.
Then I reinstalled my OS: the problem still there and the keypad not working.
Any suggestion?
my data are:
dual 1.25 giga PowerPC G4
2MB L3 cache per processor
memory: 1.25 GB DDR
Mac OS 10.4.11
I'm assuming you reinstalled the OS using the "Preserve Users & Groups" option. Switch to a different user account - create a new account if need be. See if the problem is present there as well.
Suspicion: Your keyboard & mouse preferences have become corrupted in your regular user account. The OS thinks those keys have all been remapped to something useless, like the Shift key.
You could also test this by booting into your Install disk, then finding a text entry field and testing the keypad keys there. Text entry fields can be found in both the installer, and the utilities.
Your suggestion proved right; I got a bit confused installing new users, therefore at the end I preferred reinstall the OS under a new user name, and now the keypad works properly.
Thanks, reader50, for the quick and right solution!
