Hi, everyone. Thanks in advance for suggestions, especially since I am not a regular poster here.

I've been trying to find an anti-glare film for a friend, mostly to no avail. The primary reason an anti-glare shield is needed is because the nice, awesomely glossy display is a bit taxing for someone who has recently had eye surgery.

This is needed for a 24" iMac, and so far, I have only been able to find one that is available in the US: Photodon 24" iMac Anti-Glare

While $45 seems reasonable, especially when one considers that the Power Support anti-glare shields for iPhone run $15, I'm reluctant to recommend this anti-glare product because PhotoDon isn't a familiar name. Power Support does make a similar product, but it is not available in the US, and though they generously offered to import it, the costs become ridiculously prohibitive.

Can anyone recommend another option? have you had experience with this vendor, and could you share opinions on the quality, durability, etc. of the product?

Thanks again. (:

Welcome to our forums!

The first thing I'd do is mess with the angle the iMac's display is set at. Even raising the base of the unit up a few inches can give the user a lot more angle possibilities than just leaving it on the desk top. This is one of the few uses I still have for paper phone books, by the way. A bit of change in tilt, and a bit of change in rotation could fix much of the glare problem.

I had eye surgery about 7 years ago, and I remember very well how harsh computer screens were. On the other hand, it's not a really good idea for someone who's just had eye surgery to spend much more than a moment looking at a computer screen... I'm just sayin'...

I've heard of no US alternatives to Photodon. Here's a review:
http://simon-mlogs.blogspot.com/2008...oo-glossy.html

Power Support's iPhone films (both glossy and matte) are outstanding, better than any other I've seen. Of course, an iMac film doesn't need to be anywhere near as durable.

With all that said, all matte LCDs are slightly less contrasty and less sharp than glossy LCDs, and the loss of contrast and sharpness is even greater with aftermarket films because they are farther away from the actual LCD panel. I can't see how either of those attributes is an improvement for someone with impaired vision.

As always, have your friend try the glossy as-is. Chances are it's better for their eyes than the matte would be.
