Hi there. I'm wondering what would be the best approach to replace my boot disk. I have time machine running on another drive so I figure that I get the old disk out, insert the new disk and just restore from time machine. Am I right?
My main concern is the windows partition. I chose to not backup my windows partition so what will happen with the time machine backup? Is it going to screw up the whole process?
Thanks in advance.

The TIme Machine backup will only restore the things you chose to backup in OS X...

yeah I'm aware of that. My concern is if there's some sort of table that lists the windows partition but the actual partition doesn't exist in the new disk. I know this is probably not an issue but I'm afraid that "cloning" a disk could reveal all sorts of problems.
Anyone tried that?

It shouldn't cause any problems at all. For all it knows, you've just removed the Boot Camp partition or taken the drive out.

Yeah, no problems. And since you're opting to restore from Time Machine, you're technically not cloning the disk anyway. You usually don't need to over think things or worry if the some variable will screw what you intend to do on the Mac like you have to worry about in dealing with Windows repairs and upgrades. Apple software usually just plain works as intended.

glad it works as intended. I'll buy the new hard disk in the next few days and let you know!
