My 2ghz mac pro shows a 20 degree temp difference between the processors. Would this be a mobo problem or chip problem? I don't have any problems at all with it but it does concern me. It does runs warmer than my octo mac pro. I blow the dust bunnies out once a month. Just wondering if maybe the heat sink might be the problem. Suggestions? No apple care so am on my own.

Is the machine malfunctioning? If not, I wouldn't even be looking at the temperature, never mind sweating over this.

I also don't know whether the temp of both CPUs is even supposed to be the same. Since one of the CPUs is next to the power supply, and the other is not, this could be a source of differences.

But again, unless you're experiencing problems, trash your temperature-monitoring software and don't look back.

Well, since my Mac Pro is also a 2 GHz model with the same amount of RAM, all I can say is that iStat Pro widget reads 24º Celsius (75º F) for both, CPU A and B. Anyhow I don't think a difference of 6º Celsius between the CPUs is something to worry about, don't mark my words though cause I am not an expert by any means and don't aim to pose as one.

Thanks for the replies. Just thought I would ask about this to see if it might be a problem. If I decide to drop in some clovertown processors, probably find dust bunnies were I can't see. Thanks again.

The temperatures of my G5's processors differ, so I don't think there's a problem with your MP.
