Looking for some advice. 24" Aluminum iMac (circa May 2007)'s hard drive has just failed.

I done new updates, restarted and got the 'folder flashing' icon.

Switched it off and put in my Leopard disk, loaded Disk Utility, and the hard drive does not even appear.

Any advice? Do you think it is dead? And if so would be safe to give to an Apple Store to get fixed, obviously I cannot Zero Write it, if i'ts not apppearing.

Cheers in advance.

Sounds toasted to me. Given the age of the Mac (young) it's the most likely component to fail.

Repair at an apple centre would be pretty straight forward.
