So I am probably gonna get a new mac mini today I was just gonna get the lowend one. I am mostly only gonna use it for a media center hooked up to my tv and surround sound.

i was curious if you guys think i should upgrade the ram or if 1gig is enough if im just gonna be playing movies for the most part. The movie files would be 1080p h264 encoded mkv files mostly. I would be using Plex as the media center software

i just read in another post how cheap the ram is so i will just be getting it if i need it from crucial or owc. so never mind

I recommend 2 GB as a bare minimum in Leopard. Sure video playback is no big deal (memory wise), but you don't want any swapping going on while decoding (-> lag).

RAM is so cheap these days. Less than $50 from someplace like newegg will get you 4 gig'd and you will have no worries.
