On my old G5 iMac, I could set the display brightness low and this would be maintained after shutting down and restarting. With my new iMac any setting a I use reverts to full when I restart. Is this a default setting that can be changed? I tried P-Ram zapping and a system reset, but no luck.
Also, I find the display TOO bright at times and would like to dim it further than currently allowed; to that of the old iMac, for instance. I suppose that is out the question?
Finally, a "thank you" to Simon for answering my qtn on the LED sleep light. I also enjoyed the humorous comment from another poster!

I too have found the new iMacs to be very bright.
When I turn the brightness right down and restart the setting hasn't changed, so not sure why your machine does that.
There are lots of 3rd party apps which let you lower the brightness even further, I use this one:

cleary_jp thanks so much for the tip. Splasm's brightness control works fine AND its free! If I ever get to sunny Sydney again I'll treat you to a Fosters.
