Which of these macs would be faster in encoding mp4 to DVD:
a Quad 2,5 G5 (altivec) or a 2,93 Dual Core intel Imac?

There's only one 2.93 GHz iMac. It's a C2D Penryn and obviously it has SSE.

Indeed, it has SSE through and including SSE4.1. But the OP seemed pretty fixated on the G5 having Altivec so I figured I'd mention Intel's vector processor addon.
