I'll make this as simple as I can.

Question:
I forward emails from an old AOL account to a G-mail account of mine. At my G-mail account, I forward it on to a friend's 5 year old iMac ... FROM my 3 year old Mac Pro 17" ... once there, she opens the email and some of the email characters are missing ... maybe three capital S's in a row and then maybe some lower case e's or g's - no apparent pattern. Here's the weird part ... when she PRINTS the mutant email that is missing characters ... it's fine! No problem! ALL of the missing characters are suddenly there! ... a perfect printed document - every time!

What's up with THAT!??

We would need to know about your friend's machine. Hardware, OS, email client, etc. There's obviously something wrong with her setup.

Sounds like a damaged font. Many email programs print with a different font than they use on screen, which could be why they print just fine.
