Hi, guys:

I'm still having problems with my iMac DVD driver. I cleaned it as suggested with a cleaning disc. Not much help. It accepts some DVDs, rejects others, intermittently. Including now the cleaning disc.

Clearly its screwed.

Can you recommend an external DVD W+R I can get? I don't want to put the computer in the repair shop and I mostly use the drive for watching DVDs on my computer (screen's better than my TV). So a new external drive seems the cheapest solution.

Suggestions?

Thanks

RB

Get a 5 1/4" external enclosure and a quality DVD burner (get it with as many formats as possible). This Lite-On drive for example, would do nicely, along with this enclosure. The only hitch is making sure you get both the drive and the enclosure with the same interface, as there are now a lot of SATA optical drives floating around on the market.

Installing a drive in an enclosure like this is VERY simple and can be done in minutes without any experience. You'll save a lot of money over most "external optical drive" packages if you go this route.

Thanks for the info. This is a great site for Mac non-techies like me!
