I have acquired an early 2005 G5 and am trying to get it running. when i plug the power cable into the power supply i get an audible click. nothing happens however. it should be noted that this is a bare bones system and it does not have the cable from the power button panel to the logic board. does the logic board have L.E.D.s that light up when the power supply is plugged in? or do i need that cable from the power button to the board?
The logic board does indeed have various LED's on it for warnings etc which light up when required even if the machine does not boot. However you do need to switch it on, so you will need to connect the switch.
just to confirm - the LEDs on the board will not light up without the front panel switch plugged into logic board and power switch and the tower turned on?
Is there a way to test the power supply on its own?
