I bought this in early 2007, it's 2 CPUS (2cores each) making it a quadcore machine... i was wondering if i could upgrade the CPUs. woodcrest made 3.0ghz processors, but unsure if they are still just 2cores or 4 cores each

You can upgrade with two Woodcrests (Xeon 51x0 series) to stay quad-core, or with two Clovertowns (Xeon X53x5) to get an octo-core MP.

Been done numerous times...still a little too pricey for me. Maybe is Snow Leopard utilized the cores better I'll pull the trigger but I'm very happy with 4 cores @ 2.66GHz.

Is there anything newer than that article?
I remember reading it when I first got my mac pro which was 2 years ago....
Is there a newer cpu that isn't as power hungry as the ones he installed?

None that would fit. I already listed what's available above. The newer Xeons won't work in the old 2006 MP.

The guy actually used an 80W Clovertown which is as low as you can get without going LV Clovertown (lower clock).

If I stay with the woodcrest but with higher Ghz can I manage to have a slightly better cpu with less heat?
Also do you know a good place to buy them from?

3.0 GHz Woodcrest has 80W too.

I have no idea where to get them in Greece. I go to Newegg.
