I know many people have been having problems getting there laptops to sleep, but none of them seem to have the same problem I do.
After I start my Macbook up, I can get it to go to sleep. However, after I wake it up, it will not go back to sleep again, unless I restart it. When I shut the lid, but screen goes black, but the computer itself is still running (I can hear it), and drains my battery. If I try to manually shut it off by going to the apple menu, or press the power button to give me the option, the only that happens is that my arrow disappears. My screen stays lit, and the computer is still running. Usually when this happens, I have to take the battery out to shut it down.
This just started a few weeks ago, and I have been trying to read forums and figure out what to do. Since I'm a freelance designer, and need my laptop to work, I have been trying to avoid taking it to the Apple store, since I don't want to be without it. But if it comes to that, then I will do it.
Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

Thanks, I'll give that a try
I try to hold down the power button, and it usually works, but occasionally nothing happens I've only had to take out the battery one or twice.

Run the Apple Hardware Tests on it. Insert the Install DVD, hold down Option, and pick the AHT partition to boot from.
If it finds nothing, try a permissions repair in Disk Utility. Assuming that still doesn't fix it, I'd recommend an Archive & Install, preserving users and network settings. Corruption of various OS files could cause your issue, and a fresh install can fix that. alternative: do a fresh install to an external device, like an HD or flash drive, then boot from that drive for awhile.
If none of these things sort it out, then a hardware issue would be at the top of my suspect list. Apple store time.
