Did you pop the space bar key off and see if cleaning out underneath does any good?

I researched your problem, and it appears that the apple wireless bluetooth keyboard has a bad rep for not holding up well - especially under heavy use.
If your apple computer is still under warranty and the keyboard is the one that came with it,
it should be covered for replacement.
