Hi all,

A few years ago I was here trying to get some help upgrading my iMac G3 rev B with some more RAM. I've done that so I have 256 in the upper slot and the stock RAM in the bottom. I think now I'm going to tackle some more upgrades.

1.) In my original post I have a link to this RAM (256MB PC100 CL2 SO-DIMM Low-Profile for select... (TPW256L) at OWC). Just to check - will this work in the lower slot i.e. the one not under the metal shield?

2.) I know that the max hard drive size supported is 128GB. Do these iMacs take any standard 3.5'' IDE drive? I've taken this machine apart before but never touched the HD. I think I see it under the CD drive - how can I take it out?

3.) Where can I purchase OS 9.2.2? I'd rather not use eBay as I don't have an account there, are there any retail stores still selling it?

Thanks for the help.

1) It should.

2) Yes, it takes regular 3.5" IDE drives, called PATA or UATA. It will only access the first 128 GB of any drive - if you have a bigger one, it will work if you format it so the first partition is inside the 128 GB. There are software hacks around that, if you have to have more than 128 gigs, but I haven't tried them.

3) Amazon has it, through some of its partners. Used, obviously.

1.) Both memory slots are located underneath the metal shield. One on the top of that board, the other on the bottom. The slot that is on the outside of the cage is your Video Memory Slot. You'll notice if you try to install that memory into the VRAM slot that the notch in the memory
will not line up.
2.) P is correct - you can get the software at OWC as well Intech HD Speedtools(Mac) for 750GB+ HD S... (OWCSPEEDHCCD) at OWC
Additionally, if you're looking for more storage space, you can always go with an external drive solution.
