I have an awesome mac and I don't want to change it, BUt it is slowing a bit as I have loaded it with tons of media. I have been toying with buying a new one, BUt I was wondering about a memory upgrade. Here is my question.

How will my computer run if I upgraded the memory from 2 mb to 8 mb? What difference will I see?

I really hate to change machines as this powermac has been extremely dependable.

Any input will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,

Chris

Lack of memory probably isn't your media issue, the CPU is. Media formats, complexity, and bitrates have moved on while your CPUs are partying like it's 2003. No CPU upgrades are available, and even if they were they'd be stuck in 2006 when the G5 (PPC970) was deprecated. Time to think about a new Mac.

I think you mean 2 GB -> 8 GB. You need to describe the problem in greater detail - what do you mean by loading it up with media, and when do you notice slowness? Also, what are your system specs, video card, HD, etc.

mduell is assuming your problem is video file playback.

Good point, he could be talking about Lightroom or something.
