Going to be upgrading my fresh out of the box mac mini on friday. I have not used the mini at all, but am installing a 500gb hitachi drive into it for a media center setup I'm building.

Question on the upgrade and I have heard varied responses from apple store employees. Because the new drive is fresh out of the box, do I need to format it before installing snow leopard via another machine first. i had one guy tell me that i need to hook it up to my imac first and format it as an OSX Extended Journal first.

Can't I just install the drive, boot from CD and format it during the install off the cd or do I have to configure it while attached to my imac and then install OSX from CD?

Thanks!

That guy doesn't know what he is talking about. Just install the drive, boot from the OS disk, and format the drive from there using Disk Utility within the installer.
