Lately, when I watch a movie on my computer, every once in a while, the picture freezes for a few frames, and then the projections goes on.
Has the DVD drive started to come apart...?
Thanks.

What machine? Which OS? How much RAM? Other apps running? Other tasks? Anything stealing CPU cycles in Activity Monitor?

More information is definitely needed.

Hi Steve.
I'm using iMac G5 PPC, with 2 gigs of RAM. When I'm watching DVDs, I don't have other applications running, or getting the computer performing anything else meanwhile. As for your last question, I'm not sure I could answer that, as I don't know what you mean by, anything stealing CPU cycles in activity monitor.

From the Utilities folder in the Applications folder, open Activity Monitor. Click the column header named "% CPU" to organize the running processes by CPU usage. Assuming you are using DVD Player to watch movies, watch this list of processes to see if anything else jumps to the top of the list, indicating it is using excessive CPU cycles causing the performance drop.

You didn't mention which OS either (Apple menu -> About this Mac). Is your OS up-to-date? Run Software Update from the Apple menu to make sure.

Hey Steve,
I checked the Activity Monitor while I was watching a movie, and I left Safari running on purpose, just to see what will happen, and I had, a little over 35% going to the DVD player, around 3% on Activity Monitor itself, and just under 1% on Safari.

PS: I'm running the Mac on 10.5.8.

To eliminate another possibility, did you check to see if the DVD is scratched? A scratched DVD causes the same picture freeze. My stand alone TV DVD player has this problem on some scratched up DVDs.

No,
I didn't see anything dramatic, and I've noticed, that this new version of the DVD player, that came with OS X 10.5.8, has an option, to skip over the damaged area, not like before, when the DVD player froze, and I had to do it manually, or it will just quit, and was obliged to start all over again with the projection.
