Hey,

I have a sonnet fusion 400 4-drive enclosure off my Mac pro. In the last 2 months I have 2 drives in the sonnet that fail to launch. I have never lost a drive in my macpro but now it will be 3 in the sonnet. It doesn't make sense to me but how could drive failure be that more pronounced in the external enclosure? Its just a box to hold them. Anyway, I want to replace the sonnet ASAP and was looking to replace it. Any suggestions? I've heard good things about the firmtek 4-drive box. I don't want a port multiplier. That is one reason I'm looking at Firmtek.

Thanks!

I know this isn't a complete enclosure, but I got one for Christmas and have been happy with it:
Newegg.com - KINGWIN EZD-2536 2.5" & 3.5" USB 2.0 Dual Bay SATA Hard Drive Docking Station - External Enclosures

The great thing about HDD docks is that you don't have to fiddle with opening and closing an enclosure, and upgrading your storage is extremely easy and affordable.

I talked to Sonnet about the fusion and they claim that it is working just fine - evan though they never looked at it. I swaped drives for one that I know works and I'm still not able to keep it mounted so I don't trust it. I checked all the connections and everything looks ok. I also checked the card with another device and it ism ok.

As an aside, the tech at sonnet was condesending and ignored my troubleshooting results which points to a problem somewhere in the line. I'm less than impressed with their support.

Here's another vote for a HDD dock. I like the ones that come with eSATA and USB so you can hook it up to eSATA (where available) and get basically internal HDD performance rather than be limited by USB (~25MB/s).

I use several HDD docks and they work just fine. They perform well, they're inexpensive and very flexible. Nothing more I could ask.
