Help
I have a 2.6 GHz dual core 2007 macpro and it does not start up any more

-I just did an repair disk permissions
-it did not want to re start
-just a grey screen with apple logo
-hooked it up to my macbook as a firewire
-could not repair disk
-formatted MacHD
-copied from time machine but not all got copied
--still all I get now is a grey screen, sometimes with a grey folder and question mark
-tried to copy individual folders as library etc to the mac HD but only a few get copied
still just the chimes and a grey screen
took out some of the 13 gig ram and juggled with that in case one is broken

Is the hard disk bust?
Or what ?

Boot from the OS install disc and do an Archive reinstall, preserving users & groups.

Rest your fingers gently on the slide, and move it downwards. It is spring-loaded, and there is no lock. With the slide down, you will see the real front of the optical drive, including the force-eject hole. Push a straightened paper clip into the forcing hole, the tray will pop out.

If the Archive- install doesn't work, you can use disk utility on the OS install disc to confirm SMART status of the drive. System Profiler or the apple hardware test should be able to confirm that the controller and drive are working as well.

It is below the drive tray, a flashlight or good lighting may help. It is small, just big enough for the end of a straightened paper clip to fit in.

There was definitely no pinhole in my model, but after switching it on I kept hammering the eject button for 20 sec , and it openend.
Erased and reinstalled and she s working fine again.
I still want to know what went wrong though.
Thanks for your help.
