Hi all.

As the title says, I am curious as to what the main cause to the eMac's noise is. Is it the fan or the CRT screen?

The CRT shouldn't make any noise - if it is, it's dying.

The fan is noisy if you're at the back end of the machine, the CRT on the one in our office whines occasionally, just have to remember to sleep it.

Yeah my eMac makes a high pitched noise when running, but I think it's done that for some years now. Supposedly a sign of the Grim Reaper, but the screen is still running as well as it did when I bought it (2005).

This was just a curiosity, no problem really.

My old slotloading iMac G3 made a noise like that before it got warm, and it started doing that pretty early on. Somewhere along the line (long after it was really retired and relegated to backup computer) it started having trouble turning on. Sleep was no problem, but when completely shut down it required being unplugged for a few minutes before starting up again. This went on until one time, when it had been unplugged for a long time, I plugged it in again. It went bang. Literally. Needless to say, it didn't start again.
