I am currently running OS 10.4.11 using Firefox as a browser.
Listening to a 'techtalk' podcast the other day they were saying Chrome is super quick, whereas Firefox is now bloated and not so quick.
However it looks like its only available for 10.5.
Can I run OS 10 .5 on a 1.25gHz PPC with 768mB Ram?
thanks

I wouldn't.
Safari on 10.4 is going to be faster than anything under 10.5, if not for any other reason than RAM constraints.
Why aren't you using that?

Well I do find Safari slower than Firefox. Also if I am watching things like iplayer or any streaming video I find that the voice/lip syncing in Firefox better - its as if Safari can't keep up. Also if I open Activity Monitor Safari seems a memory hogger.
I do get the occasional crash also.
Or are there settings I can alter - I would rather use Safari as its sort of from the same stable as the mac.

Latest updates of everything (most importantly Flash player, since that's what's crashing Safari)?
Also, install Click2Flash.

Google Chrome is Intel-only, not a universal release. If you do upgrade to 10.5 and want to play with separate threads for each tab, try Stainless. It is based on WebKit though, so will probably be the same speed as Safari.
You can also try Camino. It has a reputation for being lean and fast. And it works on Tiger.

Apparently not a good plan to upgrade to 10.5 so Stainless not an otion.
I took your suggestion of trying Cameo and i like the uncluttered look plus useful features like expand/reduce the image which as a great feature.
its also seeming quicker.
Thanks

On a 1.25GHz eMac I would go for 10.5 with a slug of extra ram. 10.5 is one OS newer than 10.4 and although it will not run as fast on your G4 machine it will remain current for longer than 10.4 which is staring abandonware in the face already.
Since an eMAc will struggle with flash in any case you won't really loose anything and yes install click2flash.
