I have a new Mac Mini and a TimeCapsule which on my first attempt successfully backed everything up through the ethernet. I don't use the airport in the Mini, which is connected to the Linksys router like the old Mac was.

But after trying to connect the TimeCapsule to the wireless network (which it can see and has a password for in manual settings), the TC now won't connect through any means. Not even directly between the Mac and the TimeCapsule.

Whenever setup restarts the TimeCapsule and fails to find it, all settings are greyed out and I need to reset the TimeCapsule and start anew. Only when I reset the TC will it be found again in setup. I think maybe the problem is that the airport control panel used for setting up the TC is really for the airport in the Mac and not in the TC itself?

Seems extraordinary that this should be so absurdly difficult. I have reset and restarted everything again and again in various orders. Do I need to open a port for it in the router? If so in what port range. I mean, I have tried that already but I may have done it incorrectly. Could it be a channel thing? I don't understand anything but I need the TimeCapsule to be connected wirelessly somehow.

Its because you switched from the wired network to the wireless one. It identifies the computer by the Id of the network card. If you concerned about backing up right away you can plug it back in to the wired network.

This is old but its the general idea of what you need to do. I'd look for newer if I were you.

Yes, but I HAVE put it back into the wired network and it won't work now. It only did so the first time. I can't do anything with it now.

What I don't understand about it is that you're supposed to do the first backup through the wire if you have lots of data, -the instructions say so. But it seems impossible to actually do that. And now of course I cannot do anything with it at all, cable or no cable.

Thanks for the link, but it doesn't quite help me unfortunately.
