Can't seem to find a straightforward answer anywhere, so: can I take the SATA-1 drives in my G5 and stick 'em in a Mac Pro?

Of course, what would prevent you?

FYI "SATA-1" has no meaning.

Yes.

Don't expect it to be bootable without a new OS install. But it will be fine as a way to transfer your data across, and you can use it for anything else afterwards.

Maybe. But just about everyone says "SATA 1" and "SATA 2," so I don't care.

Awesome.

It isn't for the boot drive, as that will be the drive which comes with the machine. But I have two 500 GB drives, one in use, and one waiting to be installed, which I see no reason to waste.

Actually, I bought a set of nice shinny new SATAII hard drives. I put them in my G5 Xserve, and they were not working properly. Disks were coming and going randomly, it was a total mess. Then I looked around, found jumper settings, and set all 3 drives to run as SATA1, not SATAII. They instantly became rock solid reliable. But this was the opposite of what you're doing. And I've never had a SATA hard drive experience like that in my life, on any other machine, other than this G5 xserve.
