Once this happened and I reset the PVRAM and it worked fine.

This time, I was logged on into Windows 7, and trying to connect to to a network which would not connect. I went into wireless network management and the computer crashed. Windows starting flickering (it wasn't the monitor) and restarting. I pressed the power button and the computer shutdown as usual.

However, there is no video. It's totally blank. I can hear the Hard drive spinning and the boot sound does come. Resetting PVRAM doesn't help. At first the boot sound was less (just as had when it happened the first time it wouldn't boot) but when I reseted the PVRAM, I got the full boot sound. The CD drive works fine as in I can insert CDs and pressing the eject button on the keyboard ejects them.
Any ideas?
I tried inserting the Imac restore DVD and pressing C. I get a sound that tells me the CD is being read but I get no video.

edit: it's a 24" mac (early 2008 model)

edit: I did that the second time and it works now.

Is this a windows problem? I have windows running 24/7 on this.

I keep having the same problem again and again. I think the PVRAM battery maybe dead. Is there an easy way to replace it? How much do you think the local apple dealer would charge for it?
I went to the apple reseller. Let's see what he says. He's charging $15 diagnostic fees but I guess fair enough.

You have to take the front off and maybe the LCD too, I forget. I would think an hours labour plus the cost of a battery. (Batteries are generic CR2032s and cost very little).
MacBook 2.0GHz CD; MacBook Pro 15" 2.4GHz Late '08; PowerMac G4 MDD Dual 1GHz; 3x Xserve G4 1GHz; Mac Mini 2GHz; Big pile of broken and working bits;

It could be a failure of the nVidia 7 series card, I think they're less common than the 8 series though.
